Katy Perry "looks like she’s modeling the Little Edie Beale Haute Couture line."

Say Tom and Lorenzo, and the top-rated comment says: "This is what I want to wear when I scatter cat food out for the raccoons in the attic of my dilapidated Hamptons estate."

Whether you get the "Grey Gardens" references or not, you've got to click through to see one of the craziest outfits ever.

MEANWHILE: "Shaming all the normcores."

Grey Gardens is a fantastic documentary and for whatever reason it seems to hold particular resonance with gay men. I have seen it many times over the years, and oddly with each repeated viewing I find myself feeling more and more uneasy about what is essentially the mocking of two severely mentally ill women. But then again, Frank Perry and Faye Dunaway took a story of alcoholism and child abuse and turned it into the camp classic Mommie Dearest. My armchair psychologizing is that gay men, who by their nature are going to feel a certain degree of otherness from mainstream society, have a sympathetic understanding and empathy with oddballs and outcasts. The Beale's proximity to Jacqueline Kennedy is also part of the story, but I have never understood the appeal of Jackie O, whose socialite snobbery I have always loathed.

What's weird it is entirely a runway look. She didn't put that crazy together herself.

She looks like a member of an alien trade delegation on an episode of Star Trek.

I'm not ashamed to admit I lack the cultural reference points to understand what I just saw.

That happens a lot, lately.

What really caps it off for me is the pigeon-toed stance.

Sane people need help doing crazy.

You have to read this to the end -- "To be fair, the sequined cloak is kind of fabulous, so long as we stop thinking that it looks like something Buffalo Bill would wear in his basement while lowering that basket."
That actually made me start coughing. COL!

Documentary Now! covered Gray Gardens lovingly and hilariously in its first episode. I strongly recommend.

What caught my attention was that plain, clunky beige garter belt, which is the most unsexy garter belt I've ever seen. It looks like something an old lady in the 1930's would have worn to hold up her stockings.

I hope she keeps the cape. The Cape is pretty nice in an Auntie Mame type of way. The rest? Meh.

Fabulous Little Red Riding Hood, raids Grandma's underwear drawer and finds a plastic girdle.

Gross.

Thought experiment: At a thing ya a run into some gal of this attractiveness (but not famous) and dressed this way. Whacha gonna do?

This thing shows up and I'm totally beelining, and pulling out all the stops too. Can't go w/ the obvious lame approaches cause that's what lame folks do, duh. But, I gots to know more.

Fun.

Considering her support for Hillary Clinton, it makes sense.

Rene Saunce is the first one to make me understand this. If this is the "look" of Hillary supporters, it's amazing she got as many votes as she did.

They told her not to go out looking like that . . . But She Persisted!

It looks like an outfit cobbled together from random stuff in the dumpster at a rural Arkansas Walmart after there were no takers in the bargain bin.

It it is harder to get noticed these days, I guess.

Reminds me of when Lucy and Ethel dressed up as aliens from another planet--just glammed up a bit.

The normcores are mostly quite well turned out as these things go. They would likely have looked better in the styles of 1955 however, probably.
Much more likely to, say, sell me insurance.

I caught the Little Edie Beale reference immediately, but since it is T&L, I won't click through, no matter how tempting. They refuse to cover the Trump ladies (after gushing endlessly about the former First Lady), so they don't get my patronage.

I will say this - thank you Althouse for telling us in advance which sites your links will take us to. Otherwise, I was using up my "10 free" views per month on NYT and WaPo for items that I was only marginally interested in.

I thought Clarice killed Buffalo Bill.

The onesie is spectacularly unflattering.

Then there was the 'floral sphere' that Caroline Kennedy was wearing that made her look like she didn't have any arms. I wondered if it was some sort of a metaphor for how intellectually disarmed the Democrat party is these days. Caroline, No!

It was totally worth the click.
