For those who might be interested "The Sacred Willow" by Mai Elliott is worth a read. It is about how she and various members of her family survived the war(s) in Viet Nam, starting with her greatgrandfather and the French invasion.
It is available in paperback through the Amazon portal.

...during the past half-century tropical storms and hurricanes have not shown an upward trend in frequency or accumulated energy. Instead they remain naturally variable from year-to-year. The global prevalence of the most intense storms (Category 4 and 5) has not shown a significant upward trend either...

So, let me get this straight...

250 or so Syrian refugee's make it to Britain, and the Queen puts them up in one house, with an old couple, and shovels money at them (along with an MBE).

One of the refugee's decides to blow up his new neighbors on the train.

Is Parliament going to look into housing refugee's in this way, and maybe admonishing the Queen for this stupid solution?

On this date in 1859, Norton I became Emperor of the United States. He was Emperor for 20 years, and died in 1880.

30,000 people lined the streets of San Francisco to pay their respects during his funeral.

Has anyone purchased a Trump Bear yet? Or seen the commercial?

From Wikipedia: Nearly 30,000 people packed the streets of San Francisco to pay [NortonI] homage at his funeral.

How does one pay homage to a corpse?

It appears that Penelope and Ron Jones have been fostering children for decades, some 268 so far. Of those only the last dozen or so were Muslim "refugee" teenaged males. Of course, those statistics are no exoneration of the Joneses. Anyone who takes responsibility for the care and education of a child bears a degree of responsibility for his deeds be they commendable or criminal. By fostering so many, one is bound to question just how much time the couple could possibly devote to the guidance and monitoring of any young person put in their charge. The Joneses probably received a monthly stipend for each person in their care, so it looks to me like they had vested interest in keeping as many in their home as space permitted.

It seems that at least one of the suspected "bucket bombers" was known to the police as an ISIS sympathizer and possible terrorist. In spite of Theresa May's "not helpful" bleat, Trump has been proven right once again.

One it is a little dissapointing that even Islamic state is not immune to participation trophy syndrome, they have to consider every screwup as part of a team.

Michael K said...

Of course Trump is right. If a bomb goes off in Britain or France, the chances that a Muslim set it are about 99.9 %

In Chicago, if there are 25 shootings on a weekend, the chances that shooter and shootee are black is 98%.

This is math fer crissakes !

Bay Area Guy said...

But, it's politically incorrect math, Michael K. The Left insists on data and "evidence-based" reality - but drops those admirable standards when it suits them.

Trump has been proven right once again.

He keeps being proven right after the fact. They pile on him every down but he keeps coming up with the football 3 days later. Sometimes it's quicker than that.

Interesting factoid: the last two times the Packers played the Falcons, their combined first half scores is 48 to 7 for ATL.

Arthur Blank has finally hired him a good coach.

Now I'm having a #2...

I'm going back to Beef...

P.S. I didn't watch the PBS Viet Nam documentary tonight. I already know the ending.

Of all the fast food joints, Burger King has by far the best ice cream cones.

"Sweet Mother of God, which plastic surgeon butchered Lily Tomlin?"

That's mean. She looked the same as she's always looked.

Ralph L said...

She's had less surgery than Parton or Fonda, but that ain't saying much.

"She looked the same as she's always looked."

Is that a compliment or an insult?

Gahrie said...

Lily has never been noted as particularly attractive. I think "interesting" was the polite description of her looks.

Ann Althouse said...

She is weird looking in a cute way that fits with her humor. She has an unusual face that she figured out how to use, which is greatly to her credit.
