How bad are things going on that new Megyn Kelly show?

It's hard to believe it can be this bad:

AND: I'm just noticing the lyrics on the song: "I know you want me." But she knows we don't want her. Sad!

I used to watch Megyn on Fox at the gym. I liked her on fox.

She's smart and pretty.. now she's trying too hard to fit in with the cool kids. Problem is, most of the cool kids in Hillarywood are not people who any of us, including Megyn, should give a damn about.

Hey, a glass table. You can still look up her dress.

At least she kept pace with the beat.

There has been an all-over hate-Megyn thing for a while now. She got all the lefties to hate her on Fox News, and ever since that one POTUS debate, all the righties have learned to hate her. And now she's trying to turn into Kathie Lee.

The political and money maneuvering is the problem. She's working in a media world where you're supposed to be sincere, but she moves around too much to sell that.

Other ex-Foxes have changed like that. Alisyn Camerota, for one. Usta be a trustworthy rightist on FNC; now a trustworthy leftist on CNN. What goes on with these people?

James Woods' comment on this video will likely be Megyn Kelly's epitaph: "Lots can happen in a year . . . "

I don't offhand know of a single serious media female.

Althouse would be okay but she goes scatterbrained when ad libbing. Needs a focussed topic.

rhhardin said...

It's not hate Megyn but a revolt against PC as serious thinking.

She's always PC.

Suddenly, watching Harvey Weinstein shower as a route to success and fame doesn't seem so bad.

Coulter has the raccoon eye makeup problem, the fake laugh and no sense of humor about herself.

An ear for zingers though that's good.

She wouldn't bring women along the way a host would have to.

All in all women have no sense of why sex is funny.

Money.

There are a host of people on Youtube who would fill airtime better.
Many even post daily.
Not polished, but creative.

Ace of Spades said it best:

Some people project warmth and humanity; some project intelligence. Some project both and some, like Hillary Clinton, project neither.

Megyn Kelly projected intelligence (and ambition, and drama) on Fox. But she never projected warmth or humanity. She would sometimes try to show her "lighter, playful style" by making a cutesie joke or having some friendly banter with Christ Stirewalt or whatever, and I'd always think: "Ew. Stop that. Go back to asking questions."

She might be the nicest sweetest person in the world and a woman who oozes empathy -- it's theoretically possible -- but she just doesn't project that. At all. It comes off phoney fakey, like the head cheerleader, who's never said a word to you before, suddenly asking you how your day's going at the time that, oh yeah, she's running for senior class president.

She seems very calculated, which isn't always a bad thing, but it makes her attempts to seem "relatable" and "fun" purely transactional -- some media coach has told her she's missing the Warmth Card in her TV Presentation Game, so she's trying the Make a Cute Face and Giggle maneuver and Tell Dana Perino You Love Her Shoes gambit.

Her persona as a spotlight seeking, confrontation craving prosecutorial ice queen worked for her. It seemed real. Maybe because it was real.

And it wasn't a bad persona at all -- I liked it.

Her attempt to refashion herself as Just a Workin' Mom Like You and America's Sweetheart doesn't seem to be her at all.

rcocean said...

Couldn't have happened to a nicer person.

Kelly isn't cut out for being a AM talk show host. She's not perky and she's not particularly likable.

Her forte is hard news interviews. Sadly, for her, she screwed the pooch. Liberals will always hate her for being at FOX, Conservatives hate her for being a liberal phony who posed as a #fakeconservative. And she's not good enough to overcome that.

Sads.

Bay Area Guy said...

It's a bit ......awkward.

rcocean said...

What Kelly did, has been done many times before. Make your name as a "Conservative" and then drop the mask and go play for the other team.

Gary Wills, George Will, David Brock, David Frum, David Brooks, David Gergen, the list is endless.

However, these are all print guys. TV show people can't do it as easily.

Snark said...

Seriously, who watches these shitty day time talk shows. They're horrible! Ugh.

It was a trap from the casting couch and she fell for it in a moment of ambitious desperation. They're Pro-Choice, Kelly.

Megyn is the NFL, just one year ahead on the timeline.

Remember this when you see Roger Goodell dancing around in a stadium near you to drive ticket sales.

Megyn did everything Bill O'Reilly did, only backwards and in heels.

It may be a stretch, I think Me-Again Kelly following in the footsteps of John McCain. Started out as lukewarm R, decided to go to the dark side and is getting her head handed to her. What a shocker.

Either she run out of things to say, or they couldn't find a sponsor to fill that commercial break.

Sebastian said...

She had a niche: no-PC-BS blonde analytical newsbabe. She ruined it, first with Trump, then with NBC.

The niche still exists. With righties, it actually doesn't take much. Just refraining from the usual constant prog insults to our intelligence and our beliefs goes a long way.

Sorta like Althouse. Most of the time, as long as she is not explaining the difference between baking and decorating, it's easy for righty commenters and socially liberal hostess to get along.

I (sadly) missed that episode. I worry about Megyn. Whatever credibility she had at Fox is taking a beating.

I don't watch much Morning television programming unless I am having my car serviced and it is on the screen. I had no idea Megyn Kelly would be doing a show like this. I thought she was going to be doing something similar to Face the Nation. That she interviewed another morning show host on her own morning show is beyond comprehension. I guess I will go back to watching the Trailer Park Boys.

Ironically, it's my left brain that is distracted by minutia, while my right brain is creatively adjusting the modulus. It helps that the horizon is punctuated by intellectually and visually appealing sights.

I never paid attention to her, hardly knew who she was, until the Trump thing. I thought her questions reasonable, and that she seemed smart. But now I wonder if Trump wasn’t right: it’s all her looks (which are incredible).

Ailes picked her. Ailes made her a star. Ailes appreciated her talents. So she shit on Ailes to get millions of dollars. And now no one wants her anymore...a real Benedict Arnold trying to get Washington killed story.

Too bad, so sad. Maybe Trump will hire her to be a body double for Ivanka. He already has one for Melania, they say.

I wonder what it's like to host a show you'd never watch. I bet several people know what that's like.

Kelly, like I imagine all white conservative Republican women, doesn't seem to understand that her hips exist for a reason when it comes to dancing.

Bleach Drinkers Curing Coronavirus Together said...

She dances with her arms instead. Like a hairy chested, open shirted, mid-east/mediterranean/hispanophone in the 1970s disco era.

Shame on the white Republicans. Shame.

Some of you on this right-wing thread are women. (And the rest seem to just think they are).

Are you all dead from the navel down?

The Vault Dweller said...

I wonder if she regrets leaving Fox. My guess is she is making probably triple now what she was going to make at Fox, because I think they were going to cut her salary, but does one really want to trade the end of your career for more money? My sense is that people in the media enjoy the feeling of being an influencer a lot. But she must realize she doesn't really influence many people anymore.

The Vault Dweller said...

I kinda feel bad for her. I also kind feel bad for Dan Rather. He occasionally pops up now and again, and I can sense a yearning in him to return to days when he was respected.

Or theirs, apparently.

You sound like you couldn't seduce a barber's pole.

You couldn't seduce an uncastrated dog with your leg.

You couldn't seduce a 4th-decade of life single ovulating semi-attractive female on crutches.

"That she interviewed another morning show host on her own morning show is beyond comprehension"

This is all "news" is anymore. Reporters interviewing reporters about "what they think happened and what do they think will happen" rather than people directly involved with anything. It's awful.

Rcocean asserts: Gary Wills, George Will, David Brock, David Frum, David Brooks, David Gergen, the list is endless.

Actually, Will, Brooks and Gergen have all done TV. But your point is certainly spot-on. It always amused me that the 'conservative' spot on the Lehrer Newshour Friday debate was given to the likes of David Brooks. Mark Shields, the 'liberal', was often more conservative on issues than was Brooks.

Somebody was gonna address Trump on the sexism thing. I interpreted her questioning as the home team addressing to get it out of the way.

Funny how stuff works out.

She should wear a sequined cowboy hat. That would give her more gravitas.

Truth be told, only based on this new morning show, I can't imagine a situation where I'd want her.

But, since I know that she's a lawyer who's trying to be dumb to placate the masses, I can imagine a circumstance where I'd do her. IOW, if she could--as I think she could sans playing to demos who watch TV--banter w/ me for a bit, I'd be into slinging some dick her way. Smart gals are hot, assuming that they're also not not-hot physically.

In fact it seems like she's lacking something, therefore she behaves this way. IOW, she needs some well slung dick to settle her down, imho. It's interesting to see that most dudes can squirt sperm but they don't got game re dicking. IOW, I blame her husband for her flailing.

Sad!

The horde has some of it, when she was initially on fox, she was engaging, smart, funny ( no not the stirewalt bits, and lets face it hot, but then she began to nelueve her own press, and started virtue signaling, ignoring part of the reason they put her on the air.

She is a dynamic presence in a room of people who aren't that sharp, so there is a problem, in addition, they hate you from your last job.

I always target the ones with one crutch.

I don't think they are all that sharp, if you catch my meaning.

I knew Kelly would fail on NBC- it doesn't take a genius to have figured that out, which tells you all you need to know about the people at NBC. I never once watched her on FoxNews, so I don't know whether she was good or bad in that format, but that transition was never going to work. I hope she bleeds NBC dry- good for her.
